POSITION SUMMARY
The Administrator will provide expert systems knowledge to further the
development of Best Buy Canada computer systems in a large scale Sun/Solaris
environment, technical/professional leadership in strategic planning and
implementation of systems and services that will facilitate the company’s
business needs.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & SKILLS
- 10+ years experience in computer systems.
- 7+ years as a Unix systems administrator in a large scale enterprise 24/7
mission critical environment (at least three years in a senior role).
- Advanced knowledge of the Unix operating system.
- Have superior experience in most of the following areas:
- Operating Systems – Sun/Solaris 8/9, Linux, AIX is a plus.
- Advanced performance monitoring, tuning and troubleshooting of Unix systems.
- Proficient in scripting languages – sh, ksh, Perl.
- Large systems experience – 24+ CPUs and 10+ TB disk space (1280, 4800, 6800).
- Extensive experience in clustered environment – Veritas Cluster or Sun
Cluster.
- Disk management – Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas Filesystem, Sun Volume
Manager.
- Experience with SAN – McData and Brocade switches and directors.
- System security standards.
- Knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies is a plus.
- University Degree in Computer Science or related discipline (Diploma holders
may be considered with sufficient relevant experience).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to function effectively in a dynamic team environment with minimum
supervision.
ASSETS
- Expertise in one or more MS BackOffice products.
- Comprehensive understanding of intranet technologies.
